Hand-holding through Tough Transitions

In the summer term we connected the first of our TLG trained Transition Coaches with their Year 6 students. This Transition Project provides one-to-one support for Year 6 students as they prepare for the big step up into secondary school.

It can be an anxious, scary and tough transition for young people, with changing friendship groups, a host of different subjects and teachers to get to know, not forgetting finding their way around a school that may be four times bigger than their last one!

Our first batch of coaches are already providing an additional level of support for students so that they have someone who can ‘hold their hand’ through the end of Year 6 and into the first year of secondary school.
“What has changed, is our child’s ability to cope.” TLG pupil
Matrix Transition Coaches are helping local primary and secondary schools to establish a stable foundation in Year 7 for some of the more vulnerable young people across Guildford, providing a secure springboard into the future.
If you would like to volunteer as part of this project and can spare 1 hour a week for 12 months, then please get in touch.  Full training and support is provided.
