Schools Work

Schools Workers are highly valued members of a school team serving as an 'adult friend' to students. For three days in July, just over 30 George Abbot year 8 students used Allen House as a base for exploring Guildford. Each morning the young people made their way to the grounds and played sports or chatted inside until the programme began.

We played a number of team games in the house and the grounds allowing the young people to get to know each other and their staff members better as they attempted various team-building tasks as diverse as solving murders, riding magic carpets, and escaping from an island! During the three days the young people used the venue for having refreshments and talking; for lunch, and as a base for various tours and visits in and around Guildford town. Parents became familiar with it as a site for pick-up and drop off.

The young people became very familiar with Allen House during the week; they spent time exploring the gardens and were eager each day to use the sports courts and equipment. They learned where the house and grounds were in relation to various local landmarks and attractions and found out something of the history of the Allen House area itself. Both young people and some staff expressed interest in the summer activities available and many would like further information.
