Launched in February 2009, Matex is an exciting training course teaching young people a variety of backstage & technical skills. They'll get training on brand new equipment and be able to learn 'on the job' at events. The course covers skills in live sound, lighting and video, over 12 sessions and is open to all school years.
The purpose of the course is to give young people extra practical skills, which are often needed in many voluntary areas. Young people who have done the course can then use the Trust’s equipment to support charitable and youth events around Surrey.
We hope as a result of the course, young people will be able to put their new skills to use in activities such as bands, theatre and youth events, as well as offering a good technical grounding for those who are perhaps looking to embark on a career in this area. The course has been designed to impart knowledge quickly and effectively using a combination of both theory and hands-on experience covering the basics through to more advanced operations.
We know that young people are continually facing challenges in finding jobs, and being equipped with the right training and skills is proving more important than ever. Finding the right training can often be a difficult and costly business, which is why, thanks to a generous grant from the Surrey youth opportunity fund, we have been able to buy new equipment and offer this course free of charge to young people in Surrey
Registration for the next Matex course is now closed. For more information on the next course or any other enquires contact Dave Curran at davecurran@matrixtrust.com or on 01483 574900
